Happy Reactions to EPA Decision

Ethanol producer groups and
many farm organizations are doing the happy dance today with EPA’s announcement
that it would deny a request by Texas Governor Rick Perry to reduce the
Renewable Fuels Standard.

Naturally, the ethanol
industry was pleased with the outcome.

Renewable Fuels Association
President Bob Dinneen said, “We applaud the EPA
for keeping
America
squarely on the path toward greater energy independence.”

Ethanol Promotion and Information Council
executive director Toni Nuernberg
said, “Today’s decision is an important win for American consumers. Ethanol is
one of the few things helping families save money.” Ethanol producers like POET
and Verenium also issued statements reacting to the decision. The National
Biodiesel Board expressed its appreciation as well, since biodiesel is also a
part of the RFS.

On the farm side,

National Corn Growers Association
president Ron Litterer said, “We’re very
grateful but not surprised by the EPA’s decision, given the fact that
projections are calling for another bountiful harvest.” From the

American Farm Bureau Federation
, president Bob Stallman (who, incidentally,
is a cattle producer from Texas) said, “We’re pleased that the EPA did not turn
its back on the promise of renewable fuels.”

National Farmers Union
President Tom Buis said, “The Renewable Fuels
Standard is particularly important for rural America where ethanol production
has revitalized once-struggling communities. EPA made the right decision.” Also
happy about the decision are the

National Sorghum Producers
.

Of course, there are other
farm groups not so happy about the decision - pork, cattle, and poultry
organizations all expressed their disappointment - even though corn prices have
been on the downswing in recent weeks.
