By: Ben Needles

Many children are very much picky about the food they eat. Coping with a picky eater child is a bit difficult but not impossible. Given below is a lesson plan for picky eaters, which every parent should know. This lesson plan for picky eaters may help them in handling their picky eater children in a better way.

The lesson plan for picky eaters may also help the parents in knowing what their child needs nutritionally to grow and develop.

The first thing parents need to ask is... What is the appropriate diet for my children? The recommended diet for a child includes:

Fruits and Vegetables: 4-5 servings

Milk and Dairy products: 2-3 servings

Breads and Cereals: 5 servings

Meat and Meat Alternatives: 2 servings

In general, he should have 1 serving of foods rich in vitamin C like grapefruits, oranges, tomatoes, cauliflower and broccoli every day and 3 servings of foods rich in vitamin A like carrots, sweet potatoes, mango, spinach and Cantaloupe every week.

Once you know the appropriate diet for your child, you can compare it with your childs diet and make the possible changes required in his diet.

The second thing you need to know is What does your child dislike about the food? If he dislikes the food prepared in a particular way, prepare it in another way. The food prepared in a different form might appeal him. If he doesnt like vegetables, you can offer him vegetables prepared in a different way and can also associate them with a dip or a spread or even melt cheese over them.

The next thing you can do is include a variety of foods into his or her diet. You can encourage him to taste new food. Eating an entire portion of food may be daunting, therefore ask him to eat just a bite of the food. If he rejects at that time, accept his refusal but try offering him after some weeks.

Keep on offering him new foods periodically in spite of his refusal. Many children only start developing a taste for a food after trying it several times. Therefore dont give up easily.

Offer him meals and snacks at the same time daily and if possible eat as a family. Let him see that you enjoy eating a variety of foods. Children follow their parents and learn from them and therefore by doing this, it might let them to do the same. See that your child doesnt eat or drink anything before meals. Doing so, may affect their meals.

You can ask your child to help you in food preparation, if possible ask them to prepare something for themselves. When he goes through the hard work required for food preparation, he might be willing to eat the food prepared.

Thus, the lesson plan for picky eaters not only help the parents to cope with their childs picky habits but also helps them in knowing their child better.
