Tip #1 - Choosing The Right Table Poker Stars is known as the best site to play Omaha poker and offers a wide variety of active Omaha ring tables. Choosing the right one is a major factor when determining if you are going to walk away a winner or a loser. The first thing to consider is the table stakes. You should always have at least 50X the minimum buy-in to sit down at a table. For example, the $1/2 fixed limit Omaha Hi-Lo tables require a minimum buy-in of $10, you should at least $500 in your bankroll to play at these limits. After you have determined your stakes you should look at the flop percentages. The higher the better is a good way to think about it. Poker Stars has a lot of Omaha tables that have flop percentages in the 50-60’s. These are the tables a solid player can win a lot of money at. Tip # 2 - Hand Selection In the Omaha variations you get four cards so its pretty hard to look at your hole cards and not see possibilities, especially in Omaha Hi-Lo. You will have to learn some discipline if you want to beat the rounders at Poker Stars. First we will look at Omaha HI hands. The best starting hand in Omaha Hi is one that gives you the most possibilities. If you have 5h - 6h -7s- 8s, that gives you a very good chance to get a straight or a flush. Another good hand is two pair, basically if you don’t catch the 3 of a kind you will loose in most cases. Even if you catch trips, they are easily beaten by a straight or flush. Players at Poker Stars like to bet big when they get a few face cards in their hand. While its not a bad practice it can be quite costly. For Omaha Hi-Lo it is very easy to end up playing a lot of hands. A - 2 - 3 - 4 is thought by many to be the best hand but actually it is now. The best hand is A - A - 2 - 3 double suited. This gives you a chance to win the low and the high pot. When I play at Poker Stars I notice a lot of players put too much value on the low hand. You should always value them equally. Only play hands that give you a chance at both pots. Never get caught up in a hand unless you already have a made hand. Tip #3 - Knowing When You Are Beat This tip is gear more towards the pot limit variations. The tables at Poker Stars are notorious for players that bet pot every single time. Odds are most are bluffing but unless you have a monster hand I wouldn’t take the chance. If your playing at a full ring table I would play especially tight. Its always best to just sit back and wait for a huge hand and then try to milk the other players with a check/raise.
